How about that bike ride? Look at our latest newsletter for a summary. This year's bike event was a rousing success, thanks to our amazing farmers/producers, vendors, volunteers and of course our 2-wheeled participants! We a hosted 2,300 riders this year, nearly double last years count of 1,200. 40% of the riders came from the Lower Mainland, 20% from Whistler and Squamish, 30% from Pemberton and the rest from places such as Victoria BC, Kazahkstan, Edmonton, New Zealand and other exciting locales.
The weather cooperated wonderfully with a cooling mist in the morning, hot sunshine in the afternoon and a wicked wind storm that politely waited until 7pm to flatten tents and trees.
Our riders enjoyed coffee and beats at Paula's Pemberton Valley Coffee Company stop, delicious treats including Mount Currie Coffee Company delicacies and Lucia Gelato, the wonderful burgers from Pemberton Meadows Natural Beef, the ice cream sandwiches whipped up by Michelle Beks of Shaw Creek Farms and of course the amazing Pemberton fries, pies and fruit salad served up by Denise and Gavin Van Loon. Wonderful - smiles everywhere!
Thanks to the Pemberton community for being involved, whether it was Mark Blundell from the Pemberton Valley Supermarket as a major sponsor, our incredible Pemberton Search and Rescue team patrolling the road to help where needed, our awesome crew of volunteers at registration and out on bikes helping with traffic management or if you were a patient driver giving the bikers some space on this once-a-year event - we thank you all!
We are looking for feedback from YOU about the ride. Please fill out our questionnaire to help us focus our efforts and make this ride as fun and safe as possible. And of course save the date for next year - Sunday August 16, 2009.

Sea to Sky's signature agritourism event, Slow Food Cycle Sunday Pemberton blows the fast-food drive-through away. A pedal-powered trip through the natural buffet that is Pemberton Meadows farmland, to meet local growers and sample produce fresh from the field, Slow Food Cycle is:
- Good for your carbon credits
- Flat and scenic and ride-able for all ages and levels of fitness
- A sensory smorgasboard
The World Watch Institute reports that the average food item eaten in North America has traveled 2500-4000 km from farm table. The distance between good food and your table is as short as a 26km bike ride.
The future of food is local!
